2003 Grand Island Little League Softball Minor Team Reaches State Finals

Grand Island's Little League Minor softball team completed a very successful season going undefeated in the local district tournament hosted by Grand Island Little League. The team than advanced to the sectionals hosted by Mel Ott Little League. After winning the sectional tournament, the Grand Island team advanced to the State Tournament with teams from Long Island, New York City and Albany. After a very close opening game, Grand Island lost 5-4. The Grand Island team was eliminated in their second game, 10-7, leaving the bases loaded in the last inning.

Pitching for the Grand Island team was Brittany Cieri and Emma Henderson, the catcher was Kasey Sumner. In the infield were Kali Banker, Kate Boutet and Kelly Stark. Susan Winkelstien was in right field, Christine Martinez in center field and Emily Jones in left field. Coming off the bench for both offense and defense were Sara Dzielski, Korin Frantz, Krissy Montaldi and Shannon Moody.

A special thank you to the Mel Ott Little League organization for their outstanding hospitality. They hosted a fun filled party for all the teams with good food, a band and dancing. It was great fun for everyone. We look forward to another season of softball.
