Summer Baseball League a Success
GILL's 2009 summer baseball league was a huge success!

We expect to continue to offer this league for the 2010 season. More information to follow in early spring.

Thanks to Jim Nilind and all the summer league volunteers for a wonderful job.
Player Evaluations - Why it's Needed

Player evaluations are an important step in the registration process. Please note these evaluations are NOT tryouts. They're simply used as a means to create fair and balanced teams.

They'll be all sorts of players - some experienced as well as new-comers to the game and we think that's great! At GILL, we want to give every Islander child who wishes to play baseball a place to play!

The evaluations are quite simple. A typical evaluation day:
  • Upon arrival (see below for locations and times) you'll receive a number that will be placed on the player's shirt.
  • The player will wait in a designated line until called by a league official. The player will then be thrown baseballs(around 5 each for normal throws, grounders, and pop-ups). One of our experienced coaches will be throwing the baseballs.
  • For Minor or Major evaluations, the next step is hitting. In most cases, a coach will pitch around 5 balls to each player. International baseball does not conduct hitting evaluations.
  • Duration of the evaluation will vary depending on division and the amount of players attending. As an estimate, International will last around 1.5 hrs, Minor/Major Baseball around 2-2.5 hrs, and Minor/Major Softball around 2 hrs.

League commissioners are responsible for player evaluations. If you have any questions, please contact the appropiate commissioner.

2010 Opening Day in:
yogi Born Lawrence Peter Berra, "Yogi" was a 3 time AL MVP and one of the best catchers the game has seen. His lifetime batting average still ranks him high in history.

He's also known for his unique insight and has been referred to as a great philosopher of baseall.

Former President Bush once said: "Yogi's been an inspiration to me," generating gales of laughter. "Some of the press corps here even think he might be my speechwriter."
