Welcome to Summer Baseball !!!

by Sue Weiberg intl Red Sox

After a three game playoff series against tough competition including the Blue Jays and the Yankees, the GILL International League Red Sox’s team faced off in the championship versus the dreaded, yet equally talented Cubs team.

The game itself was one for the ages, as both teams battled hard, played fair, and had fun. The score see-sawed between these two monster teams in a game which saw the Red Sox prevail and be crowned champions for the 2010 season.

And even though only one team could call itself champs, it was sportsmanship that reigned throughout the season by all the teams and all of the children that squared-off through the course of another successful baseball season!

Congratulations Red Sox !!!

Welcome to the Tournament !!!

All of us at Grand Island Little League are thrilled to be hosting the 11-12 District 1 Williamsport Tournament.

We have a roster of volunteers ready to welcome you and make sure you have a great experience both playing, and cheering, at one of WNY’s finest Little League Parks. Our snack stand will be open and ready for business prior to the first pitch and after the last pitch of all Tournament games. Please drop by and grab a snack, quench your thirst or order up something fresh off the grill.

Once again, we welcome you to our facility and trust you’ll have a great time here at Grand Island’s Veterans Park.

Notes from the bullpen: PLEASE be advised that traffic delays are significant crossing the South Bridge as you come onto Grand Island – especially for weeknight games that begin at 6pm. Leave yourself PLENTY of time to get here so you have enough time to warm up. You can easily expect to sit on the 290 or 190 North for at least 30 minutes (or more) as you approach the bridge. Again, leave yourself PLENTY of time to get here.

4th Annual Food Drive - June 12th, 2010
by Mark Goc opening_day

Over the last three years Grand Island Little League has conducted a Food Drive during the baseball/softball season. In establishing this event we at GILL recognized the need in the community, the life lessons we could teach our players and we have an organization that can make a difference.

We all read stories in the newspaper and see moving images on television about the need during the holiday season but this need doesn’t go away after the holidays are over. Given the recent harsh economic conditions the need will be even greater throughout the year. By collecting non-perishable food items during the summer you can assist your local charitable organization meet that growing need.

Little League is not just about teaching the fundamentals of baseball/softball. What we are and should be teaching our players are the more life affirming lessons of responsibility, discipline, sportsmanship, friendship, respect, losing with dignity, humility, etc. With the food drive we can teach our players that there are those that aren’t as well off and that they can make a difference in someone’s life.
